During my senior year of high school I worked for the Omprakash Foundation as a Social Media Intern. During my internship, I learned a plethora of information about volunteering abroad and the many organizations that offer volunteer positions.
The Omprakash Foundation is a non-profit organization that, “connects grassroots health, education, and environmental organizations in over 30 countries with a global audience of volunteers, donors, and classrooms that can learn from and support their work.” This network of Partner organizations and volunteers is a resource of inspiration, knowledge and support for anyone who is interested in volunteering overseas.
Aside from the incredible network that Omprakash provides, they also have created an online curriculum called EdGE: Education through Global Development. As an Omprakash Ambassador Travel Grant recipient, I was fortunate enough to participate in the program before my departure to Peru. EdGE is an intellectually engaging program that aims to prepare volunteers for their time abroad through addressing various debates surrounding international/community development, thinking deeply about the impact of international volunteerism as well as receiving mentoring from individuals with extensive experience with volunteerism abroad, global development and education.
If you are interested in international volunteerism or have volunteered before, Omprakash provides a unique set of resources for such travel.
