I’m Michelle and I am a recent high school graduate about to embark on an opportunity of a lifetime – a year abroad volunteering in Lima, Peru! I will be in Peru for nine months and while I’m away, I will be applying to college for the fall 2014 semester.
The organization I work with is called Building Dignity. I am lead facilitator of the music program, co-facilitator of Building Dignity’s youth leadership program and I tutor young students with homework during Horas Públicas.
I learned a plethora of information about volunteering abroad via the Omprakash Foundation. Omprakash is a non-profit organization that, “connects grassroots health, education, and environmental organizations in over 30 countries with a global audience of volunteers, donors, and classrooms that can learn from and support their work.” My work with Building Dignity is being supported by Omprakash’s Ambassador Travel Grant, which has helped immensely with my travel and living expenses.
This blog is one of two that I’ll be maintaining while I’m away. This blog will be documenting some of my more personal experiences and insights. My second blog is hosted by Omprakash and will be centered around my work with Building Dignity. I will be posting pictures on all blogging platforms.
Please feel free to send me a message! I’d also be happy to answer any questions should you have one.
